Presentation
Agadir – Al Massira Airport (IATA code: AGA – ICAO code: GMAD) is an international airport serving the city of Agadir, Morocco.
It is the third Moroccan airport in terms of traffic with 1,516,987 passengers at the end of November 2010.
Furthermore, the Agadir-Casablanca airline is the leading national airline in Morocco in terms of passengers with traffic of 307,306 passengers in 2008.
Environmental impact
Like all airports, this infrastructure is a source of noise pollution, disruption, various pollution and greenhouse gas emissions (especially during takeoff).
Its construction contributed to the decline of the almost endemic argan grove of Morocco.
While it is regressing in terms of surface area and especially density throughout its territory: it has gone from 100 trees/ha to 30 trees/ha in 50 years, while the areas covered fell by an average of 600 ha per year3, the construction of the airport and its road network (road connecting it to Agadir) destroyed more than 1000 hectares of the most beautiful argan forests of Admin and Mseguina.
Infrastructure and equipment
The airport has a terminal with an area of 26,550 m2, with a capacity of 3 million passengers per year.
